The unemployment rate for the state of Florida has leveled off at 10.7% for August 2009, almost unchanged from last month's 10.8%, according to the Agency for Workforce Innovation.

The national rate for August was 9.7%.

Experts think the state is near the bottom of the market. “The relative stability of Florida's unemployment rate over the past few months is encouraging,” says Agency for Workforce Innovation Director Cynthia R. Lorenzo.

The Agency's press release on Friday said that Florida's unemployment rate is expected to peak at 11% in the second quarter of 2010. From there, experts project a 1.5% growth in jobs, as that 11% figure gradually comes down.

The report also provides a breakdown of changes in employment by industry. Of note, Florida added 5,500 construction jobs in August 2009, but lost 10,300 jobs in administrative and waste services.
